Feed the Hungry Project 2011

In the summer of 2010 a group of volunteers joined our president in Guatemala.  A trip that began with the purpose of enjoying the beauty of Panahachel and Lake Atitlan ended with life changing experiences. The group which consisted of recent graduates, high school students, professionals, educators and ministers, was embraced by a culture that was warm and inviting.

 

After a week in Panahachel, we journeyed to Zacapa, Guatemala.  There, the group provided minimal service work to the Pediatric Wing of the Regional Hospital of Zacapa.  We also journeyed into the mountains, Loma del Viento, where we were met by bright eyes, big smiles, and a community welcoming our presence.  We found ourselves doing a lot more than we anticipated. Our first day began with one child and ended with 37. On our last day we serviced over 150 children and families.

 

The saying, “If you build it they will come,” became real for us last summer.  LWBI not only had Vacation Bible School with the children, we also formed lasting relationships with them, their families, and their community.  Those who came were fed daily.  Before leaving, our president made a commitment with the little ones that LWBI would be returning. 

 

Feed the Hungry Project 2011 has an established goal of feeding at minimum, 300 mouths twice per day.  For just $2.50 per day for 63 days, you can provide two meals to a child or family member in Loma del Viento.  We know that if last summer alone in just eight short days we were able to provide over 100 meals per day with a record of over 150 meals on the last day, then with the help of our sponsors, we can do more. 

 

During the nine weeks of summer 2011, we want to double the number of mouths being fed daily.  We cannot do this alone.  We are asking God to send people like you who are willing to sacrifice with our organization.  Instead of eating out for one month, we invite you to set that money aside and donate to our Feed the Hungry Project.

 

Our minimum goal is to serve 18,900 meals and 18,900 snacks for the period.  Our target number is to at minimum feed 300 mouths per meal per day. A daily dollar amount of $750 will provide these 2 meals to 300 people per day for nine weeks.  $47,250 is what LWBI needs to meet this goal.
